Eugene Knezevich, resident of Rycroft, AB, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the age of 93 years.
Eugene was born on March 6, 1930, in the Grande Prairie Municipal Hospital. He lived in the Rycroft area and attended school in Silverwood. Eugene grew up playing ball and hockey and enjoyed community gatherings. He met his wife Betty, and they raised their family in Rycroft.
Eugene farmed with his father Jerry, brother Lawrence, and sons Mel and Gerry. He worked at local sawmills and on road construction running cat and scraper. He snow plowed oilfield roads and towed trucks, moving drilling equipment in the mountains of the Peace Country, BC.
Eugene loved his family and his lifelong friends, Matt and Joe, who he grew old with. He enjoyed exploring and touring old infrastructures and history of the development of the Peace Country, Alberta, and North Western Canada. He enjoyed his cattle, river boating, and seen the untouched part of the world. He enjoyed hot springs of which Miette, Radium, and Liard were some favorites. In his later years, he loved watching nature programs, Curse of Oak Island, Gold Rush, and Mountain Men. He loved to sit on the porch at the cabin with his family, and look out over the river flat, and remember his journey and tell the history. He would say with pride to his great grandkids “You’re the sixth generation looking out from here.”
