It is with heavy hearts that we mournfully announce the unexpected passing of Wayne Kelvin Lucuk at the Central Peace Health Complex in Spirit River, Alberta.
Wayne was born September 18, 1961 to Mike and Simone Lucuk and grew up on the family farm in Woking, AB. He definitely loved his hockey whether it was playing for the Woking Wolves or watching his favorite team, the Montreal Canadiens. Wayne took pleasure in “rubbing it in” to his dad when Montreal would win over his dad’s team, the Edmonton Oilers.
He moved to Grande Prairie after high school and started a job with Weyerhaeuser as an operator. He was a dedicated employee for 25 years at Weyerhaeuser where met his “buddy” Dan Wever and they became lifelong friends.
Wayne and Annette married in 1983. They lived and worked in Grande Prairie where they raised daughter Rhonda. He was a loving, kind man that would do anything for anyone. Wayne would often visit with friends and neighbours just to chat or lend a helping hand. Wayne also loved farming. He liked being out in the field on the tractor but the combine was his favorite because that was “where the money was”. He used to say “look at all that money pouring in”.
He also enjoyed going on road trips and visits with his Aunt Roseanne and Uncle Fred in Edmonton.
Wayne loved being outdoors whether it was to go camping, fishing, quadding or skidooing, he enjoyed it all. He spent a lot of time out by the fire pit and he especially enjoyed it when a neighbour would stop by and they could share some stories. He would always say, “there is nothing like cooking on an open fire everything tastes better on an open fire”.
Wayne and Annette lived in Grande Prairie for over 25 years but his love for the farm brought him back home to the farm in Woking. He lived out his life there surrounded by good friends like Marie and Bill Chascha and Dmitri and Marianne Boychuk. He will be sadly missed by all.
Wayne is survived by his wife Annette Lucuk, step daughter Rhonda Lucuk, aunt Roseanne Leighton, uncles Steve Lucuk, Albert Savageau (Evett), Paul Savageau (Sharon), Maurice Savageau (Denise), several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many cousins, friends and neighbours.
He was pre-deceased by his father Mike Lucuk, mother Simone Lucuk, brother Alvin Lucuk, uncle Fred Leighton, uncle Harry Lucuk, aunt Lucy Lucuk as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the staff at the Central Peace Health Complex in Spirit River, as well as, his good friends Marie Chascha, Dmitri Boychuk and Dan Wever.
A gathering of friends will be announced at a later date. Interment will take place also at a later date.
