It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of Gwenyth Freda Hamilton, our most loved Partner, Mother, Mother in-law, Stepmother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Auntie and Friend.
Gwen passed away on May 20, 2021 at Sacred Heart Community Hospital in McLennan, AB with her Partner and Children by her side as Dancing Queen played her away.
She was born on July 1, 1947 in Calgary, AB.
Gwen was a proud daughter and sister of a very musical family. She was a very talented piano and violin musician herself. Her family loved to listen to her play. She enjoyed her days of teaching piano lessons to many students whom she loved.
Recalling stories of her family trip for a year as a child to England, Ireland, Scotland and other parts of Europe brought her much joy.
She was a hardworking and proud member of any club that she took part in or any community where she lived. She had a great sense of humor and loved all the dress up themes that her and her bonspiel teammates would plan for. On many occasions she was the proudest winner of the person that brought the most family with her to a gathering. She loved those photos!
Her family was always the luckiest recipients of her love of Christmas. No tree was big enough for all the gifts. Many years Melvin had to make more than one trip to the Host Christmas House beforehand with the van loaded to the brim. She was the Mom that every teenager wanted and her kids were proud to call her, theirs.
Her unconditional love for her children only grew stronger and louder with the birth of every grandchild and great grandchild that followed. She honestly had the biggest heart for the littlest lady, and that was her strength right to the end of her life.
Gwen was predeceased by her parents Mollie (Pierce) And Harry Hamilton and her Stepmother Eileen (Campbell) Hamilton. And very soon, suddenly and sadly after her passing, her Sister Sharon Davis passed away.
Gwen, Gwenie, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma was our strength and our core and will be sadly and forever missed by her partner Melvin Barnhardt, her children David (Shelley) Strauss, Michelle (Perry) Roy, Paul (Amanda) Carmichael, Chad Carmichael and Troy Carmichael, Stepson George Barnhardt, her Grandchildren Ryley (Caitlynd) Roy, Samantha (Blake) Clement, Shane (Sarah Bertram) Strauss, Teri (Devin) Bell, Jamie (Braydon Zahara) Strauss, Paige, Jayce, Chase, Landin, Taylor and Kara Carmichael, her Great Grandchildren Bennett, Asher and Bowen Roy, Isabel and Theo Clement, Liam and Carter Bell and Bernard Strauss, her sisters Patricia Brogden and Mary Hamilton and Nieces and Great nieces and Great Nephew and all the Friends that she proudly called her extended family.
To those who weren’t lucky enough to meet her before she passed, have peace knowing, she would have loved you, too.
I imagine
You holding us all so tight
Giving us strength and love
And you’re protecting us,
I imagine . . .
