Boyd Lawrence Cain (December 29, 1933 – March 18, 2021)

Boyd Cain, resident of Spirit River, Alberta, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 18, 2021, at the Central Peace Health Complex at the age of 87 years.

Boyd was born December 29, 1933 in Meadow Lake Hospital, the 4th child of Perl and Mildred Cain. He was raised on the family farm first known as Island Hill, 20 miles NE of Meadow Lake, SK.

Boyd was an ambitious, determined man. He drove truck his entire career. Boyd and Faye bought a farm 7 miles NE of Spirit River and moved there in the fall of 1974. Boyd and Faye started their trucking company in the fall of 1987.

Boyd kept working, selling off equipment in spring 2005. They built a house in Spirit River and moved there in April 2006.

Boyd enjoyed fishing, golfing, cards, computer games, bar-b-q’s, and visits with his children, 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He enjoyed travelling; he visited Yellowstone National Park, Colorado, spent 3 weeks in Mesa, CA, went on a Palm Springs Bus Tour, saw Niagra Falls, and Campbell River, BC.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 50 years, Faye; daughters Donna (Ken) Grubisich, and Heather Allery; sons William, Robin (Holly), Brad (Darlene), Conrad (Nikki), and Trevor (Kelly); 18 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren; siblings Lillian, Eleanor, Maryan (Carl), Roy (Anne), Dennis (Cherlyn), John (Debbie), Allan (Alice), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Boyd was predeceased by his parents Perl and Mildred Cain, eldest son Robert, brothers James, and David, sister Sharon, brothers-in-law Clarence Zimmer, Andy McKenzie, and two nephews Dale McKenzie, and Chris Cain.

A Memorial Service for Boyd will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at 11:30 am at Bear Creek Funeral Home. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, attendance is by invitation only.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Peace Hospital Auxiliary (PO Box 866, Spirit River AB T0H 3G0).
