Gib Hval, son of Louise (nee Christopherson) and Allan Hval was born March 8, 1952, in Sexsmith, AB. He was found deceased January 29, 2021 in Wanham, AB at the age of 68 years.
There is a lot that could be said about Gib. It’s enough to say that Gib was – Gib. He was mostly raised on the Silverweed farm of his maternal grandparents, Arnold and Margaret.
Somehow, he survived the mishaps of his teenage years. Making it to twenty, he moved to Lumby, B.C. liking the area. He found work and Shirley Christian. Their marriage resulted in two daughters.
After divorcing, back to Alberta he came. He met Connie Shmyr, they married, adding two sons to his family. They also divorced.
Gib took to truck driving, working for Al Ross and Energetic. Then for the last eleven years he spent at the Grande Prairie Elders’ Shelter, moving to the Seniors Apartments at Wanham in October 2020.
Gib’s sense of humor, tendency towards mischief and his presence drew people in. He played guitar and sometimes sang along. It turned out; he could cook! People at the shelter enjoyed his holiday meals. With Gib, elders, children, animals and the ‘underdog’ were given and shown respect.
He leaves to mourn, daughters Jodie and Ronica. Sons Kody and Travis. Grandchildren: Traiten, Presley, Asher, Trinity, Zoë, Harper and Hayes. Brother James Johnson, Aunts Karen and Lynn (Dennis). Along with many cousins and the people who were friends, old and new.
Peace be with you Gib, back with gram.
Due to Covid, plans for celebration of life will be postponed. He will then be laid to rest, close to his grandmother.
