Video tutorials add to learning and fun at library

Spirit River Municipal Library’s Creative Assistant Cara Gustafson is hard at work creating online programming for children in the area. Each week she creates theme-focused prepackaged craft kits for parents to pick up. She then posts a video showing how to complete each craft. She also posts a storytime video as well as a video tutorial for snacks that children can create at home.

Have you seen our snack videos? Every Wednesday for the rest of the summer, a how-to snack video will be posted to our Facebook page. The ingredient list is posted the Thursday before (can also be requested earlier). The video shows a step-by-step tutorial that kids can follow with parental guidance. Last week, we made Edible Olympic Metals and Banana Chocolate Chip Protein Bites to go with Sports Week.

This week we will be making Trolls funfetti rice crispy squares and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory lick-able wallpaper. You will need: fruit roll-ups, metal cookie cutters, parchment paper, tape, rice crispy cereal, sprinkles, marshmallows, and margarine.

We also make kid book bags. If your kids have a membership at the library we can create a bag of books for them that we think they would like. You just tell us their reading level and a couple of interests, and we do the work.

Next week is all about Robert Munsch. We will be making a paper bag princess, smelly socks, and an alligator baby.
