Alberta Health reports 141 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing active cases to 1,193, up 84 from the last report.
Two deaths were also reported, one each in the Calgary Zone and Edmonton Zone.
Ninety-three people are in hospital, including 16 in intensive care.
Active cases in the County of Grande Prairie jumped to 12 from nine while that of the City of Grande Prairie rose to nine from eight.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said she was concerned by the continued rise in active cases.
“Our health system is watching this situation closely, but I want to be clear . . . we all have a role to play in reducing the rise in cases that we are seeing,” she said in her televised report on the state of COVID-19 in Alberta.
“Now is the time to recognize that COVID cases and hospitalizations can rise quickly unless we all take actions every day to stop the spread. COVID-19 isn’t going anywhere. It’s on all of us to adopt the public health guidance and protect each other.”
