First COVID-19 case identified in the Central Peace

Alberta Health has identified the first case of COVID-19 in the Central Peace on a day when a total of 86 new cases were identified across the province, bringing active cases to 701, up 25 from the last report.

The case was identified under Alberta Health’s geographic delineation of the Municipal District of Spirit River No. 133, which also lumps areas including the Town of Spirit River and the Village of Rycroft with a combined population of 3,092.

There were also two deaths reported in the Edmonton Zone, bringing the provincial death tally to 163.

Fifty-five people are in hospital, including 13 in intensive care.

In the North Zone, which includes both the County and the City of Grande Prairie as well as the Central Peace and surrounding communities, active cases are at 50, including one in hospital. The County of Grande Prairie accounts for five of the 50 active cases in the North Zone and the City of Grande Prairie, four.
