Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said that four of the 38 people in hospital with COVID-19 are under the ages of 30 – “patients do not have any underlying health conditions, and yet they are very sick,” adding that “in fact, the majority of active cases we have identified in recent weeks are in Albertans under the age of 40.”
In the lead up to Canada Day, she reminds the public “to consider the steps you can take to minimize the risk.” She suggested holding Canada Day celebrations outside, noting that the risk of spread is lower outdoors.
Dr. Hinshaw reports that 38 people are in hospital, including eight in intensive care. One person in the Edmonton Zone has died.
In the past 24 hours, 26 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed out of 6,363 tests completed.
