One life lost while active cases fall

Active COVID-19 cases declined to 814 – down 51 from the last report – including 48 hospitalized patients, six of whom are in intensive care units. The active cases also include 74 seniors at continuing care facilities, which lost a resident in the past 24 hours. These facilities now account for 101 of the 135 COVID-19 deaths in Alberta.

Eighteen new cases have been identified in 3,981 tests completed in the past 24 hours.

Below is a breakdown, by health zones, of active COVID-19 cases in Alberta.

  • Calgary Zone – 641 active cases (minus 48)
  • South Zone – 93 active cases (unchanged)
  • Edmonton Zone – 55 active cases (minus 3)
  • North Zone – 19 active cases (plus 1)
  • Central Zone – 3 active cases (minus 1)
  • There are 3 active cases and 21 recovered cases in zones that are yet to be confirmed.

Increased Testing

  • Starting May 25, some Albertans will have access to more health services, including voluntary testing for asymptomatic staff and residents in long-term care and some designated supportive living facilities.
  • Non-urgent surgeries that require hospital stays will also resume.
  • Maternity services will resume at South Calgary Campus and High River Hospital on June 3.
