A resident of Manoir du Lac Continuing Care Facility in McLennan is one of four people who died from COVID-19 in the past 24 hours in Alberta. The most-recent death is the seventh fatality for the facility and the ninth for the North Zone, which includes the Central Peace, Grande Prairie and surrounding areas.
Plagued by a staff shortage and other operational issues, Manoir du Lac has been taken over by Alberta Health Services. The facility has a total of 62 residents. As of Friday, April 17, 26 residents and 11 staff of the facility have tested positive for COVID-19.
The new provincial COVID-19 death count now stands at 59.
A total of 105 new cases have been identified throughout Alberta, bringing the provincial total to 2,908. Of these, 1,230 people – 32 more than yesterday – have recovered.
In the North Zone, six new cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 143.
