Bertha Stoner (August 25, 1928 – April 11, 2020)

It is with profound sadness that the family of Bertha (Bert) Stoner (nee Morrow) of Spirit River, Alberta announces her passing on Saturday, April 11, 2020 at the age of 91. Mom was born on August 25, 1928 near Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan and raised in Bridgeview, Alberta.

Mom & Dad and family farmed near Spirit River, Alberta until Mom was no longer able to continue with her daily life on the farm. Mom moved into the Pleasantview Lodge where she spent her remaining years.

Mom was very active all her life, she had a passion for gardening especially the creation of her rock garden. She always grew a vast vegetable garden and raised poultry & other farm animals. When Mom wasn’t busy with farm work and raising her children, she loved curling and later in life took up golfing. Mom was very social and treasured playing cards & board games with friends and family. Mom was very quick witted and had a wonderful sense of humor. Mom was also a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 72 in Spirit River.

Mom will be remembered by her two daughters Lynn of Cold Lake, Alta., and Merle (Brian) of Nanaimo, B.C., and her three sons Clyde and Jim of Spirit River, Alta., and Ken (Deb) of Grande Prairie, Alta.

Also missing their Grandmother are her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mom is reunited with her husband Theodore (Ted) and Eldest Son Robert (Bob). Parents Robert & Matilda Morrow, and her seven siblings Harry, James, Nancy, Robert, Margaret (Daisy), Maynard and Rodney, and her son-in-law Edwin (Ted) Owens.

The Family would like to give special thanks to all the staff at the Pleasantview Lodge for all their wonderful care that they gave Mom on a daily basis; Mom truly felt that this was her second home.

Due to the current restrictions in place on gatherings, we will have a small private family and friends service to be announced at a later date.
