Edna Agnus Muters (Wade), the third child of Art and Ruth Wade, was born on the farm in Spirit River on March 20th 1938.
As one of 8 children she enjoyed many adventures with her siblings, riding horses, swimming in the river and tending to the huge garden.
She travelled east to join the Royal Canadian Air Force and fondly remembered hitching free rides in Flying Boxcars to see the country. She left the air force with a rank of Corporal to pursue a career as one of Ottawa’s first policewomen.
Edna and her fellow officers were reputed to be the most highly trained police women in North America at the time, her training including the use of all small arms, lectures in law, forensic chemistry, medicine, public relations, traffic control and accident investigation.
She settled back in the Peace Country and homesteaded in Gordondale, living without power or running water, breaking the land picking rocks and roots. She moved to Spirit River and started up her own cleaning company, Maid for You, which she operated until retirement.
Edna moved south and was charmed by her grandchildren, watching them grow, relishing in their accomplishments, wiping away their tears and always having a full cookie jar. She made some of the best friends of her life in Fort Saskatchewan where she kept busy playing cards, sharing stories and enjoying the beautiful garden.
She was a selfless lady who always put other people’s needs ahead of her own.
Grannie was very proud of her children, Kevin Muters (Tori) Kevin’s children Regan, Kaelin and Jared. Tori’s children Jena, Karli, and Jordyn grandchildren Eve, Emilia, Aleaha and Charlie. Barb Chahley (Travis) their two boys, Tanner and Tristan. Nancy Muters (Heath Craig) their children Jaden: her two partners in crime, Delaney and Kailey, and Heath’s daughter Isabelle. Edna was predeceased Madison Craig.
There was no greater joy in life for Edna other than her grandchildren and her home was always full of toys and games for them. She was dearly loved and will be missed. Edna passed away in her home on May 2, 2019.
Service to be held at Serenity Funeral Services 9914 103 st Fort Saskatchewan, May 17 at 2 pm.
