Fred (Freddie) Metz (April 30, 1941-August 3, 2018)

Fred (Freddie) Metz passed away on Friday, August 3, 2018 in Olds where he had been living in an assisted living facility for the past 14 months. It took him a while to feel at home but once he did he enjoyed the care and fellowship he was able to have there.

Fred was born April 30, 1941 in Austria during the war years and life was unsettled until his family moved to Germany around 1946.

In May of 1954 the family immigrated to Canada. They moved to the Peace River country but soon relocated to Mile 101, BC where employment in the lumber industry was available.

Fred attended school briefly but decided to enter the work force piling lumber with his dad and older brother. He worked various jobs in BC during the next years. In 1977 he moved back to Alberta to help his parents stay on their farm during their senior years.

When his Mom went to the Spirit River Lodge he faithfully visited her. He worked at The Canola Plant in Sexsmith until it closed and then was a semi-retired farmer until his health declined and he could no longer remain on the farm alone.

In October of 2016 he went to Three Hills to be with his sister and they worked through some of his health issues until he could be settled into a Lodge in Olds, June of 2017.

He will be missed by his brother Rudy Metz (Shiela), sisters Linda Palmer (Earl) and Emmy McDonald and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thank you to any folks that helped him during his retirement years.

We as a family are grateful to the staff at Old’s Seasons Care Centre who made his last year one of the best years for him.
